ISHS Acta Horticulturae 381: International Symposium on Natural Phenols in Plant Resistance

GLUCOSYLATION AS RESPONSE TO PHENOLIC ALLELOCHEMICALS

Authors:   B. Politycka, D. Wójcik-Wojtkowiak
Abstract:
Ability of cucumber and sweet pepper to detoxification of substrate phenolics via glucosylation was compared during their growth. Changes of free and glucosylated phenol contents in above-ground parts of plants were examined against a background of phenolic level and phytotoxicity degree in substrate. Both cucumber and sweet pepper responded to higher phenolic levels in substrate by increasing glucosylated phenol contents. However, cucumber in comparison with sweet pepper showed slow rates of glucosylation and furthermore accumulation of free phenolics when was grown in toxic substrate.
