Abstract:
A survey in three regions of the Congo has led to the identification of five cultivars of yellow-pigmented cassava: Ngodiki, Dikonda, Fuana-dia-dkonda, Otswa-bitswi, and Moundzienze as well as a hybrid called 22 M9. The survey also shows that because yellow cassava is not included in the basic cassava meals of the country, it does not sell well.
Yellow cassava has an significant amount of b-carotene, a vitamin A precursor, and contains a lesser amount of cyanide than the white varieties, but it does not appear to have superior nutritive qualities as far as lipids, sugar, vitamin C are concerned.
