EQUIPMENT FOR RECORDING LOW AIR VELOCITIES IN STORAGE ROOMS

Author:   P. Roer
Abstract:
Our demand for adequate equipment to measure low air velocities is connected with research on the climate in store-rooms for agricultural produce.

To find the air distribution throughout the storage mass, the thermoanemometer was selected as the most suitable device.

This gives the temperature difference between a heated and unheated thermo-couple as a function of air velocity. A device has been further developed for the special purpose of obtaining an extended lower velocity limit.

This device may also be of further interest to biological research when measuring extremely low velocities. A detailed description of the sensor is given in the publication referred to below. This publication comprises detailed information of the construction of this inexpensive device as well as experience gained from its application. It includes a description of necessary instruments involved and some important requirements related to them.

The method of calibration is described. The lower velocity limit for this particular type of sensor is established as well as its directional characteristics etc. A high level of reproducability has been obtained even at extremely low velocities.
