Abstract:
The effects of mechanical harvesting on carrot skin quality and storage performance are reviewed and illustrated by experiments in which carrots were given various pre-storage damaging or desiccation treatments.
The results indicate that rotting in store increased with the relative severity of pre- storage treatment but was reduced (in another experiment) when pre-storage holding conditions produced some desiccation (3 or 6 % weight loss).
