Abstract:
Within the intensive Community competition, the basic target of production units is an effort to attract the consumer of the European market.
This is achieved by the decrease of production cost and by the continuous improvement of products' quality.
This article performs a comparative analysis of production cost on Greek vegetable production units for the years 1983 and 1991, by investigating the evolution of the parameters of the production system, and the quality of the produced goods.
The main findings of our analysis show that labour is the most important element of cost and that within the past eight years, there were no significant changes detected, a reality that is reflected in the quality of products as well.
