SURVEY OF VIRUSES INFECTING ALSTROEMERIA IN ITALY |

| Abstract:
Since virus diseases appear to be the most important pathological problem for Alstroemeria, a survey on viruses infecting alstroemeria plants, cultivated in Italy and/or imported from Holland, was carried out. Six viruses were found: AlMV (alstroemeria mosaic virus), FMV (freesia mosaic virus), ACaV (alstroemeria carlavirus), LSV (lily symptomless virus), TSWV (tomato spotted wilt virus) and ArMV (arabis mosaic virus). AlMV was present in all the plants tested; in several cases it was found alone and the infected plants were symptomless. The most severe symptoms observed were present on alstroemeria plants infected with AlMV+ACaV (chlorotic mosaic on the leaves) and AlMV+ArMV (stunting, malformation and necrotic spots on the leaves). The alstroemerias infected with AlMV+FMV appeared symptomless or with chlorotic leaves. LSV and TSWV infected this plant occasionally. | |
