LILY MOTTLE VIRUS IN LILIES: CHARACTERIZATION, STRAINS AND ITS DIFFERENTIATION FROM TULIP BREAKING VIRUS IN TULIPS

Authors:   A.F.L.M. Derks, M.E.C. Lemmers, B.A. van Gemen
Abstract:
Three lily mottle virus (LMV)-isolates were distinguished from each other by a host range consisting of lilies and herbaceous test plants. They could not be differentiated in an immunoblot assay, with immuno-specific electronmicroscopy and in a nucleic acid hybridization tests. The LMV-isolates were distinguishable from tulip breaking virus (TBV) with antisera prepared against potyviruses inducing colour breaking in tulips, and with cDNA probes. Although LMV could not be differentiated serologically from Rembrandt-tulip breaking virus (RTBV), RTBV was not detected with a LMV cDNA probe.
