CYTOPLASMIC INCLUSIONS INDUCED BY NARCISSUS LATENT VIRUS |

| Abstract:
Isolates of narcissus latent virus (NLV) from narcissus, bulbous iris and gladiolus each induced in Nicotiana clevelandii the formation of cylindrical cytoplasmic inclusions which were seen as pinwheels and laminated aggregates, but not as scrolls or tubes. Its ability to induce inclusions indicates that, like maclura mosaic virus, NLV should now be considered a member of the Potyviridae. NLV-infected cells also contained aggregates of filamentous particles which were found in longitudinal and transverse section in cytoplasm between, or adjacent to, laminated aggregates. Infected cells contained some chloroplasts which lacked grana but contained numerous vesicles, and many mitochondria which were enlarged and vesiculated. | |
