ISHS Acta Horticulturae 377: VIII International Symposium on Virus Diseases of Ornamental Plants

EVALUATION OF RAPID ELISA PROCEDURES FOR DETECTING VIRUSES IN PROPAGATION STOCK OF PELARGONIUM, DAHLIA AND ORCHIDS

Authors:   J. Albouy, C. Kusiak, M. Louanchi, W. Wang
Abstract:
Sanitary selection is the most appropriate way to control viral diseases in ornamental productions. In order to improve phytosanitary status of Pelargonium, Dahlias and Orchids, several Elisa reliable procedures allowing the detection of the different viruses are available. These tests have been optimized for routine analysis and compared for its cost, time consuming, sensitivity and efficiency in large scale application. A simple and rapid procedure using nitrocellulose membrane as support (DIB - Dot Immunobinding Assays) proves to be very sensitive, fast and cheaper than commonly used DAS-ELISA. But it requires an adaptation for each plant species, suitable to develop a good appreciation of negative and positive samples.
