NEW NATURAL HOSTS OF TOMATO SPOTTED WILT VIRUS |

| Abstract:
Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) was reported in greenhouse crops of tomato, sweet pepper, gerbera, chrysanthemum, dieffenbachia and 32 other plant species, from which 14 were never reported to be the host plant of this virus. The infected plants were found in 10 from 18 inspected farms. The percentage of affected plants varied, depending on the crop and farm, from 1 to 100 %. The mass appearance of TSWV in Poland is correlated with the recent arrival of an important vector, the thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) and extensive movement of plant material. The isolated virus was identified by symptomatology, host range, stability in vitro and serology (ELISA test). The purified virus preparation was used to produce antiserum, which in agar double diffusion test reacted with homologous antigen at the dilution of 1:256. | |
