BEST METHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF NO3 - -N IN SOIL WHERE LYCOPERCIUM ESCULENTUM (TOMATO) IS CULTIVATED

Authors:   A. Dimirkou, A. Ioannou, P. Gatzougianni, M. Christou
Abstract:
The concentration of NO3--N in the soils was determined by the copperized cadmium reduction method and by the Granvad and Liazou method. More than 500 soil samples were used. These soils were taken from a field where Lycopersium esculentum (tomato) was cultivated. The soil samples were taken before and after the application of different levels of Nitrogen-Fertilizer.

The analytical results show that the Granvad and Liazou method for all the samples gave higher values of NO3--N concentrations than the copperized cadmium-reduction method. The relation between the two methods was determined by the least squares method. This relation is given by the following equation: y = 5.6623 + 0.5338 x where y are the ppm of NO3--N by the copperized cadmium-reduction method, x are the ppm of NO3--N by the Granvad and Liazou method. Copperized cadmium- reduction method is considered more pricise than Granvad and Liazou method.
