Abstract:
The aim of this research was to evaluate the vegetative and productive behaviour of Flavorcrest cultivar grafted onto different rootstocks.
The trial located in Capocotta (Rome), was established in 1982 with virus free material of the following rootstocks: peach seedling, (Yugoslavian, PSA V, PSA VI, PSB2, GF 305, Rubira, Higama, Harrow Blood, Siberian C); peach x almond hybrids (GF 677, Hansen 2168); plums (GF 43, Mrs 2/5, S. Julien 655–2, Damas 1869) budded in August.
The training system was the vase, with a planting distance of 5 x 6 m.
The most vigorous were the peach roostocks, while plums (GF 43, Mrs 2/5) were the weakest.
Peach selections gave the highests yields except Higama that provided the lowest production of all.
The best fruit quality, as percent of higher fruit diameter classes, was obtained with Rubira and Yugoslavian.
This research confirmed that in standard pedological conditions (suitable for peach) peach rootstocks give the best results.
