ISHS Acta Horticulturae 374: III International Peach Symposium

FLOWERING PHENOLOGY OF PEACH CULTIVARS UNDER HUNGARIAN ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS

Authors:   J. Nyéki, Z. Szabó
Abstract:
In a 4 year trial flowering phenologycal characteristics of 44 peach and nectarine varieties were studied in Siófok, Hungary.

Studying the function ability of sexual organs of some important varieties was also subject to our research.

Results are as follows:

  • in Hungary peaches and nectarines start bloom early April following apricots. The start of bloom is genetically determined;
  • the start of bloom, full bloom and the lasting of bloom are determined not only genetically, but by the meteorological conditions (first of all the temperature).
  • the function ability of peach sexual organs is short, compared to other stone fruit species (plum, sweet and sour cherry). Viability of stigma lasts 11–48 hours, and dehiscence of anthers lasts 6–29 hours.
