Abstract:
Hungary is at the northern border of peach growing region.
Safe and economic growing requires varieties with good fruit quality, regular yield, and high productivity.
Our aim was to determine the rate of self pollination and open pollination of valuable world-spread peach varieties of the three main variety groups (fresh market type, processing clingstone, nectarine).
43 peach and nectarine varieties were examined for 6 years in a variety collection orchard of Siófok State Farm.
Average rate of self pollination was 15–20% of peach and nectarine varieties.
Fruit set of open pollinated flowers was higher than of caged, artificially not pollinated flowers.
Nectarines had lower rate of self and open pollination and higher rate of fluctuation in years, than those of other groups.
