ALMOND GENETIC RESOURCES AND RESISTANCE TO CAPNODIS TENEBRIONIS

Author:   M. Mulas
Keywords:   Prunus, rootstocks, glucosides, prunasin
Abstract:
The sensitivity to infestation by Capnodis tenebrionis larvae of different stone-fruit rootstock, such as cherry, apricot, plum, peach and sweet almond seedlings and young GF 677 plants was compared to a selected group of bitter almond seedlings. Comparison was made by artificially infesting plants raised in pots with just-born larvae. Tests demonstrated that least susceptibility to infestation was shown by sweet and bitter almond seedlings. Among bitter almonds, however, this feature varied widely.

Determination of prunasin content in one-year-old branches and roots, which is strongly correlated to greater resistance to Capnodis, demonstrated that glucoside is probably involved in the resistance.
