ISHS Acta Horticulturae 373: I International Congress on Almond

EVALUATION OF ALMOND GERMPLASM IN SARDINIA: FURTHER OBSERVATIONS

Authors:   G. Nieddu, I. Chessa, M. Pala, G. Lovicu
Abstract:
Thirty-six varieties selected among the Sardinian almond germplasm have been gathered in a collection field located in southern Sardinia in order to safeguarding and exploiting the autochthonous almond population. The horticultural characteristics of the selected varieties were previously observed on mother plants and lately in the collection field, at the same growing conditions and comparatively to cultivars widely grown. The results of the observations conducted in the last three years have shown the range and classes of frequencies of main morphological traits of the trees growth habitus and fruiting behaviour, of buds and flowers, and fruit. The attention have been also drawn on flowering process and chemical as nutritional composition of fruit.
