Abstract:
To study the working environment after chemical application for workers in greenhouses, this study investigates the residues after application of Ronilan FL (active ingredient vinclozolin) and Bayleton Special (active ingredient triadimefon). Experiments were performed in greenhouses with the doses normally used.
Samples were taken on leaves, on polythene sheets placed on the floor and on acrylic plastic sheets placed on the walls.
Air samples were also taken during the first 24 hours.
The fungicide residues were extracted from the leaf area with ethanol and analysed with HPLC.
Analysis showed triadimefon levels of about 0.1 mg/m2 for both high volume and low volume spraying and vinclozolin levels of 6.8 mg/m2 in mean on leaves for the two sprayers after application.
There was a great variation in deposit.
More experiments need to be carried out to verify these levels.
On the floor the residues were as high as 31.9 mg/m2 and on the walls 2.0 mg/m2 after spraying vinclozolin with a high volume sprayer.
Air sampling during the first 24 hours showed residues from 0–24.6 μg/m3 after high volume spraying and 8.5–74 μg/m3 after low volume spraying.
These studies will be continued to gain better knowledge of the working environment after chemical application in greenhouses.
In our study more than 50 % of the substance is still left on the leaves one week after application (Nilsson, 1993). New studies on the degradation and decline of the fungicide vinclozolin are performed this year for a period of four weeks.
