SEED COATING TO CONTROL PESTS IN PEAS (PISUM SATIVUM L.) (*)

Authors:   G. Vulsteke, F. Van de Steene, M. De Proft, P. Meeus
Keywords:   Sitona lineatus, seed coating, insecticides, Peronospora viciae, fungicides, crop covering
Abstract:
The aim of these investigations was to evaluate the treatment of pea seeds against insects and diseases by coating. The seed coating was compared with a single foliar spray applied at the first leaf damage and with a crop covering with Lanet polyethylene insect netting immediately after sowing.

The best control of Sitona lineatus was obtained with the covering of the field immediately after sowing. Seed coating with furathiocarb, benfuracarb or carbofuran gave very good results, while a foliar spray with deltamethrin was insufficient to control Sitona lineatus.

It was impossible to evaluate the different fungicides as seed coating against Peronospora viciae because the lack of primary infection.

The selectivity of the seed coating with insecticides alone or combined with fungicides was sufficient for peas.
