Abstract:
The mango crop has spread extraordinarily in Brazil during recent years increasing the risk of mango wilt epidemy caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata Ell & Halst.
Plants resistant to C. fimbriata were selected following inoculation of two isolates, through the method of soil watering with pure culture of the pathogen made in liquid medium of potato-dextrose.
The cultivars “Carabao”, “Manga d'Agua” and “Pico” showed the highest resistance level.
There is plant variability for resistance within polyembryonic cultivars due to mutation.
This fact allowed the selection of plants resistant to mango wilt belonging to susceptible cultivars.
