ISHS Acta Horticulturae 370: International Symposium on Tropical Fruits

PREFACE

Abstract:
The International Symposium on Tropical Fruits was held in Vitória, ES, Brazil, on Noveber 7–12, 1993 and was hosted by EMCAPA (Empresa Capixaba de Pesquisa Agropecuária - the Espírito Santo research enterprise), ISHS (International Society for Horticulture Science) and SBF (Sociedade Brasileira de Fruticultura). The Symposium theme was "Improving the Quality of Tropical Fruits". A total of 215 delegates from 13 countries were registered for the Symposium. The program included 12 special conferences and a poster session with 112 posters presenting a variety of research projects including biotechnology and tissue culture, breeding and selection, entomology, orchard management, marketing, plant nutrition, plant pathology, plant physiology and biochemistry and postharvest handling and storage of tropical fruits. The discussion sessions were organized on three panels (papaya ringspot virus, papaya harvest and postharvest and macadamia nut quality and yield). An all-day field trip and technical tours were organized according to the interest of participants.

Three discussion groups were organized on the last day of the event (potentialities for Brazil to export fruits; plant physiology and nutrition; and biotechnology and tropical fruit breeding).

All abstracts of papers accepted were published in the book "Program and Abstracts" distributed at the Symposium. Thirty seven selected papers are published in this volume of Acta Horticulture.
