Authors:   O. Nowosielski, B. Szmidt, J. Brzeska, A. Beresniewicz
Abstract:
Looking for perspective standard medium for growing plants under covers, we have paid since 1967 special attention to brown coal /Nowosielski 1969, Nowosielski et all. 1971, Chroboczek et all. 1971/. It is mined in Poland in big amounts /40 mil. tons a year/, will be mined in future in still bigger amounts and according to preliminary studies has the features of standard medium. Directly or after useing as substrate under covers it may be used for improveing field soils as organic conditioner.

In this work are presented some results on the use of brown coal as plant substrate under covers and as soil conditioner in the open.
