THE RESPONSE OF HIGHLAND GARLIC CULTIVARS GROWN UNDER LOWLAND CONDITIONS

Authors:   H. Prasetyawati, . , S. Harsono, .
Abstract:
Three highland garlic cvs. Gombloh, Lumbu Hijau and Lumbu Kuning were grown under lowland conditions with and without mulches. The crops responses evaluated and compared with those of lowland cv. Lumbu Putih. Results showed that cv. Gombloh failed to form normal bulbs and cloves, whereas cvs. Lumbu Hijau and Lumbu Kuning showed normal growth and produced normal bulbs and cloves as those of Lumbu Putih. The use of mulches reduced the soil temperature which improved the conditions for bulbing in Lumbu Putih, Lumbu Kuning and Lumbu Hijau, however, it could not improve the bulbing of Gombloh.
