RESPONSE OF TOMATO TO SOIL CONDITIONERS AND NPK DOSAGE ON RED YELLOW PODZOLIC SOIL

Authors:   E. Sjamsudin, . , S. Harjadi
Abstract:
The response of tomato to soil conditioners was studied and the increase of efficiency of inorganic fertilizer application on Red Yellow Podzolic soil was observed. Tomato variety Ratna was planted in polybags containing 10 kg soil. The main factor was soil conditioners consisting 3 t/ha lime, 1 ton/ha OST, 20 t/ha organic fertilizer, whereas the subplots got different levels of NPK application (0; 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5 t/ha). All treatments were in 6 replicates.

The results indicated that the organic fertilizer gave the highest yield per plant, followed by OST and lime applications, and the control being the least. This order was also obtained for fruit number, fruit size and quality. The highest yield and best quality was achieved at 1.5 ton NPK/ha. Interaction was found between soil conditioner and NPK for yield and fruit quality.
