Abstract:
A field experiment to assess whether there was a critical period of birdpepper (Capsicum frustescense) due to weed infestation was conducted at dessa Tawun, Ngawi (Grumusol soil, 55 m a.s.l.), East Java.
The experiment was designed in a randomized block with three replicates.
The treatment were of weed-free condition from planting (W11 = day 15, W2 = day 30, W3 = day 45, W4 = day 60, W5 = day W6 = day 90, W7 = day 105 and W8 = day 120) and weedy condition from planting (W9 = day 120, W10 = day 15, W11 = day 30, W12 = day 45, W13 = day 60, W14 = day 75, W15 = day 90, W16 = day 105). The results of this experiment were in the range of days 30–45 indicating its critical period.
The dominant weed species present during the period of study were of Ottochloa arnotiana (laronan, SDR = 29), Polytrias amaura (lamur, SDR = 20.1), Cynodon dactylon (grinting, SDR = 9.2) and many others in small amounts.
