SMALL-SCALE VEGETABLE PRODUCTION IN SOUTH SUMATERA

Abstract:
Lost of the vegetables in South Sumatera are produced in the highlands, in the western of the povince. Major vegetables grown are cabbage, chinese cabbage, snap bean, carrot, cucumber, and some other cucurbits. Center of vegetable production is the Pagar Alam District. In the low-lands, small scale vegetable production can be found in some areas in the vicinity of Palembang. Yardlong bean, eggplant, cucumber, amaranth, and Capsicum peppers are commonly grown vegetables in the lowlands. Economically, vegetables (and other horticultural crops) are not the major crops grown in South Sumatera.
