EFFECT OF VARIETY AND FRUIT SIZE ON STORABILITY OF APPLES

Author:   M. Al-Bachir
Keywords:   apples, fruit sizes, Golden Delicious, variety, Starking, storage loss
Abstract:
This study was performed in two seasons using two varieties of apples namely Golden Delicious and Starking produced in two orchard locations (Syria). Apples were stored in refrigerated and non-refrigerated rooms. Weight loss, spoilage, and total loss were evaluated after 180 days of storage. This study has shown that variety and fruit size affected storability. The weight loss in Golden was more than that in Starking, while the spoilage in Golden was less than that in Starking. The storability of small fruits was better than that of big fruits.
