ISHS Acta Horticulturae 368: International Symposium on Postharvest Treatment of Horticultural Crops

THE EFFECT OF SPRAYING AND POSTHARVEST TREATMENT WITH CALCIUM CHLORIDE ON THE FRUIT QUALITY CHANGES OF "ANNA" APPLES DURING COLD STORAGE AT 4 °C

Authors:   M.M. El-Ansary, H.M. Ayaad, F. El-Morshed
Keywords:   Respiration rate, firmness
Abstract:
Anna apple fruits were dipped in 3 % CaCl2 with and without vacuum (350 mbar); other fruits were taken from trees sprayed 3 times with, 0.5 % CaCl2. All fruits were stored for 50 days at 4°C. The results indicate that fruits which had been previously dipped in 3 % CaCl2 under vacuum had the lowest respiration rate and were firmer than other treatments and the control, followed by those dipped in 3 % CaCl2 without vacuum. Spraying treatment had no effect on the above-mentioned fruit characteristics.
