Abstract:
Apples var. 'Granny Smith' picked at different harvest dates were stored under ULO, CA and NA conditions, and treated with heat treatment (37 °C for 4 days). Levels of cuticle conjugated triene hydroperoxides were measured during storage.
The impact of storage conditions and hydroperoxide levels on superficial scald were studied.
In all storage treatments more mature fruits had less superficial scald.
However very mature apples may lead to other problems during storage such as: core flush, green colour degradation and bad storeability.
