Abstract:
A number of rootstock trials have been completed and are currently underway at the Mid-Columbia Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Hood River.
This paper will discuss the results with trials with three green and three red cultivars.
All trials were planted 2.4 x 5.5 m (8 X 18 ft) yielding 758 trees per hectare (302 trees per acre). Trials with green d'Anjou, Bartlett and Bosc were planted in 1988. The rootstocks included Bartlett seedling, Calleryana, Betulaefolia, and Old Home by Farmingdale (OHxF) 40, 217, 333, 339, and 513. Trials with Columbia Red d'Anjou, Sensation Red Bartlett, and Crimson Gem Red Comice were established in 1989. The rootstocks included: Bartlett and Winter Nellis seedling, BA29C, EMLAC, and OHxF 18, 40, and 97.
