ISHS Acta Horticulturae 367: VI International Symposium on Pear Growing

EFFECT OF CYANAMIDE ON BUD BURST, FLOWERING AND FRUIT MATURITY OF BAGGUGOSHA PEAR

Authors:   S.S. Mann, H. Singh, A.S. Sandu, G.P.S. Grewal
Abstract:
Investigations were conducted to study the effect of hydrogen cyanamide on bud burst, flowering and fruit maturity of Baggugosha pear during 1990–91. Sprays of Dormex (1, 2, 3 and 4 per cent) were done on four dates (5/12, 15/12, 25/12 during 1990 and 5/1/91) during dormancy. Dormex 2, 3 and 4 per cent treatments sprayed on 5.1.91 enhanced bud burst by 2 weeks, flowering by 10 days and fruit maturity of 7 days. Enhancement of flowering time can offset high temperature effects of fruit set. higher concentrations of dormex reduced fruit yield significantly. There was no deleterious effect of dormex on the quality of the fruit.
