Abstract:
High early pear production is achievable if a large and efficient bearing area can be built quickly.
Newly-planted pear trees often experience transplant shock which limits early growth and retards precocity.
The reasons may be that pear trees are sensitive to the inbalance created between tops and roots when dug and bad pre and post-planting conditions that these bare-rooted nursery trees often experience.
It is suggested to use the nursery techniques of growing pear trees directly in a high density orchard.
It avoids transplant shock, long tree storage, root desiccation and late planting.
The tops remain in balance with the roots and tree growth can proceed uninterrupted.
