EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT IRRIGATION INTERVALS AND RATES ON SPRING SEASON GLASSHOUSE TOMATO PRODUCTION: II. FRUIT QUALITY |

| Abstract:
In an experiment in which two different irrigation intervals (1 and 3 days) and four different water quantities (calculated by the use of pan coefficients 0.60, 0.80, 1.00 and 1.20 and depending upon pan evaporation within the glasshouse) were tested, the effects of different applications on various fruit quality criteria were investigated. Total soluble solids (TSS), pH, titratable acidity (TA), total dry matter content, skin resistance, TSS/TA and pH/TA values were determined in samples taken weekly during the harvest period. Changes occuring through the harvest period are discussed. Increasing the irrigation rate increased yield but decreased total soluble solids and tended to reduce the dry matter content of fruits. | |
