ISHS Acta Horticulturae 366: II Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Solanacea in Mild Winter Climates

EFFECT OF DIFFERENT IRRIGATION INTERVALS AND RATES ON SPRING-SEASON GLASSHOUSE TOMATO PRODUCTION: I. YIELD AND PLANT GROWTH

Authors:   I.H. Tüzel, M.A. Ul, Y. Tüzel
Abstract:
The research was carried out during the 1992 spring season in order to determine the yield and plant growth response of glasshouse tomato to different irrigation intervals and rates. In the study, irrigation was scheduled at 1 or 3 day intervals and irrigation rates were calculated from pan evaporation within the glasshouse. Four different coefficients were used namely 0.60, 0.80, 1.00 and 1.20. The trial was performed with the Argus variety. Early and total yields, height of the first truss, stem diameter, length, and fresh and dry weights of the root were determined. There was no significant difference between the irrigation intervals, whereas, the most effective application was the use of coefficient 1.20 on early and total yields. Effects of applications on other plant growth characteristics are discussed.
