ISHS Acta Horticulturae 366: II Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Solanacea in Mild Winter Climates

POSSIBILITIES OF USING SIDE SHOOTS AS PROPAGATION MATERIAL IN GREENHOUSE TOMATO PRODUCTION

Authors:   A. Gül, Y. Tüzel, T. Yoltas
Abstract:
These experiments were conducted to evaluate the possibility of using side shoots as propagation material during the spring season. In the first experiment, effects of media (peat, perlite, sand and a mixture of organic manure-soil-sand) and hormone treatments (IAA and IBA at concentrations of 500 and 1000 ppm and control) were investigated. In the second experiment, the aim was to determine the optimal quantity of fertilizers that should be added into the media; peat, perlite and sand.

It was found that peat, perlite and sand are more suitable than soil-based compost for rooting side shoots. Adding fertilizers onto the media increased the transplanting growth.
