ISHS Acta Horticulturae 366: II Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Solanacea in Mild Winter Climates

TOMATO SEEDLING PRODUCTION IN A SIMPLE PROTECTIVE GREENHOUSE ADAPTED TO EGYPTIAN CONDITIONS

Author:   F. EL-AIDY
Abstract:
Tomato is the main vegetable crop in Egypt. Several years ago, the yellow leaf curl virus started to become a most serious problem which resulted in restriction of the tomato cultivation area and growing seasons in most locations The reduction of yield was greater when the growers used infected seedlings.

This work aims to assist in solving this problem, at least during the seedling stage, by introducing a simple protective type of greenhouse, which prevents the entrance of insects, so that less chemicals are needed, is easy to erect and is of low cost.

The seedlings produced under this type were more healthy and at the same time completely adapted to open field climate conditions.
