ISHS Acta Horticulturae 366: II Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Solanacea in Mild Winter Climates

ANHTER CULTURE OF TOMATOES AND EGGPLANTS

Authors:   E. Özzambak, A. Atasayar, A.S. Seto
Abstract:
Anther and pollen culture have been used in mutation and F1 hybrid breeding programs in many plant species. In order to get haploid plants, five tomato varieties (Rio grande, Arno, Schasta, VF 6203, Colorado) and oval eggplant types were used in this study. Anthers were removed from 2–3 mm length tomato flowers and 10 mm length eggplant flowers. Four different nutrient media were investigated to get callus. Calluses were subcultured on to six different media, however, haploid plantlets were not obtained.
