Abstract:
Citrus is the most widespread and profitable irrigated tree crop in Cyprus covering about 7,000 ha in the free part of Cyprus (mainly Limassol District) and another 7,000 ha in the occupied part of Cyprus (mainly Morphou area).
The variety of soil conditions, existing in the intensively cropped with citrus areas of Morphou and Limassol, has offered an excellent opportunity for comparing citrus performance and behaviour on different soils and under different management practices.
The findings of such studies may be extrapolated to similar soils in other areas under similar climatic conditions.
The investigation in Morphou area was carried out during the years 1970–1973 and in Limassol from 1982–1989. A brief summary of the findings and conclusions of these investigations is presented below.
