Abstract:
Replant problems are not confined to agricultural systems.
In nature, similar phenomena exist, which contribute to change and succession in natural vegetation.
This is illustrated by two cases of establishment and growth and decline of plant species in sand dunes.
A number of cases of replant problems in horticulture and agriculture are discussed.
Characteristics emphasized in each case are: causes and strategies to follow to clarify and solve the problem of concern.
Replant situations may or may not lead to replant problems.
Effective "natural" biological control may prevent their occurrence.
