Abstract:
Changes in electrolyte leakage from Helianthus annuus L. cv.
Peredovik seeds stored at high temperature (65 and 90°C) for 0, 1, 3, 7, and 14 days were analyzed.
Storage at 90°C causes severe damage as evidenced by complete loss of viability and an increase of electrical conductivity (EC) values.
However, storage at 65°C did not affect drastically to sunflower seeds.
There was not correlation between germination capacity and EC measured at 0.5 V in seeds stored at 65°C during 14 days.
When EC determinations were performed at 1 and 2 V, significative differences were detected.
These differences are indicatives of an increase in the proportion of deteriorated seeds and are consistents with loss of membrane integrity.
