OSMOTIC PRIMING IN ECOTYPES OF CERATONIA SILIQUA L. SEEDS TO INCREASE GERMINATION RATE AND SEEDLING UNIFORMITY

Authors:   G. Russo, P. Uggenti, G.B. Polignano
Keywords:   Carob, PEG, Physiological parameters
Abstract:
Different seed ecotypes of carob were used to test the effects of hydrating and priming on rate of germination and seedling uniformity. Seeds harvested in different years extracted and handled by standard procedures were germinated in climatic cell utilyzing three solutions polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 with different osmotic potential: -0.53, -0.95 and -1.11 Mpa. The results indicated a different action of PEG on the parameters considered.
