Abstract:
The first results on the influence of a new inert substratum, called "Oasis", on the soilless culture of Phalaenopsis are reported.
The two substrata mixtures compared have been: "Oasis (70%) + foam rubber (30%)" and "pine bark (70%) + pearlite (30%)". Micropropagated plants of two clones were utilized for each substratum: Mad Hatter Lippe and Yuki May.
Results show that Phalaenopsis has a great adaptability to "oasis" substratum.
The yield and flower quality are the same for both substrata.
The Mad Hatter Lippe clone produced longer stem and a higher number of flowers for cluster.
