Abstract:
The use of palms in landscape planning throughout Brazilian history is discussed.
Presently, palms have increased their value in the landscape planning projects.
Some factors, such as the low production of seeds, the low germination and the mortality in transplanting are not always easily solved.
Others, such as lack of knowledge about the way that species behave, cannot be solved, in many cases, because of lack of specific bibliography or lack of interest from the growers or the landscape planners.
The most cultivated species, the species rarely cultivated, and the species considered with highly useful potential for landscape planning are listed.
