| Abstract:
The primary method by which all palms are propagated is by seed. Germination of seeds for many species is slow and erratic and germination percentage can be very low. Most palm seeds germinate best if they were picked when fully ripe, have the fleshy mesocarp removed, are planted promptly in a well-drained medium, and are maintained at temperatures of 30–35°C. Palm seed loses its viability within 3 to 6 weeks due to dehydration, but can be stored for 8 months or longer if the seed is cleaned, air-dried, dusted with a seed protectant fungicide, sealed in a plastic container, and stored at 18 to 23°C. | |
