Abstract:
The palm collection of the "Monjolinho" Botanical Complex is located at Campinas, SP, Brazil. It started in the 1960's and its main objective is to introduce and propagate species with ornamental value. Most accessions came from the interchange with the International Palm Society and from collecting trips made by researchers around Brazil. This collection today has 93 genera (22% native and 78% exotic) with about 406 species (61% identified and 39% identified only at the generic level). Genera with the highest number of species are Attalea, Chamaedorea, Coccothrinax, Sabal and Syagrus. In the last five years, there was an average of 100 accessions per year, increasing the interchange of this palm collection with other national or international institutions.
