CUCUMBER MOSAIC VIRUS IN NANDINA AND OTHER ORNAMENTALS |

| Abstract:
Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) has a wide experimental and natural host range. The natural host range on ornamental plants includes at least 98 species of 67 genera in 42 families (Thornberry, 1966; Review of Plant Pathology 1958–1970). Brierley and Smith (1960) recovered CMV from Nandina domestica. In Denmark CMV was recovered from Ajuga reptans (Plantesygdomme i Danmark, 1956). We transmitted viruses from N. domestica, A. reptans, and Euonymus japonicus var. microphyllus. These isolates were identified as CMV, but 2 of the isolates from ornamentals had atypical host ranges which might confuse virus identification. The disease of N. domestica is described in detail since it occurs commonly in the southern United States of America. | |
