ISHS Acta Horticulturae 359: V International Symposium on Plum and Prune Genetic, Breeding and Pomology

INVESTIGATION OF PLUM AND PRUNE GENOTYPES (PRUNUS DOMESTICA L. AND PRUNUS INSITITIA L) IN-SITU IN SFR YUGOSLAVIA

Authors:   S.A. Paunovic, A.S. Paunovic
Abstract:
During the 1989–1991 we have studied and selected 92 genotypes within the large number of local-indigenous old plum and prune cultivars and primitive cultivated landrace. Amoung them there are highly resistance or tolerance to virus Sharka (Prunus virus 7) 23, 2%. Then, highly resistance to M.laxa 34,1%, to M.fructigena 26,4%, to Polystigma rubrum 8,9% and to Tranzscheli pruni-spinosae 19, 4%.

Also, we have studied pomology-genetic characters, as tree vigour: weak 10,9%, extremely strong 4, 3%; harvest maturity: very early 6,6%, early 24,2%, late 24,2% and extremely late 1,1%; productivity: very high 12,1%, extremely high 8,7%, fruit size: small 5,5%, very small 11,0% and extremely small 81,3%; ground colour of skin: green 28,2% to deep yellow 3,5%; stone shape are mostly elongated 50,5%; shape of blade leaf: as letter "U" 30,0% and letter "V" 70,0%; length of flower penduncle: short 14,6%, long 13,5%, medium lenght 71,9%; hairness of ovary and style of very young fruits: no hairness 15,7%, much hairness 4,3%.

The selected genotypes could be used for breeding programme and for roostocks, as well as relating to the diseases for further systematic research study in the experimental plots and in the laboratory (Paunovic, 1985, 1988).
