ISHS Acta Horticulturae 359: V International Symposium on Plum and Prune Genetic, Breeding and Pomology

NUTRITION AND QUALITY OF THE ENTE PLUM

Author:   D. KLEIBER
Abstract:
Nutritional constraints related to the soil have a direct influence on fruit tree nutritional profiles. Chemical parameters alone are not adequate to come to an understanding of soil influences, and textural and structural parameters are of prime importance.

The cation total criterium constitutes a fixed reference to appreciate the overall nutritional level in leaves. The potassium and, above all, its balance with calcium levels has an essential role in defining quality. Potassium and lime availability in the soil determine, a particular form of balance of potassium and calcium elements in the plant. The quality of production is improved when the soil K2O/CaO balance has a higher potassium content.
