Abstract:
The growth evolution of shoots formed in 1988 on 8 plum cultivars was examined during four years.
In the description special attention was payed to bare wood formation.
It was shown that the percentage of very short shoots (spurs shorter than 1 cm) and the flower bud level on these spurs determine the sensitivity of plum cultivars to denudation.
Therefore plum cultivars that show a high percentage of short spurs and have a high flower bud level on these spurs are evaluated negatively for high density plantations.
