Abstract:
Two perforated concentric-type storage structures made of 25 x 25 x 2.5 mm welded wiremesh, each having a capacity of 1 ton, were designed, fabricated, and evaluated.
Constructional design of both structures were the same except that natural ventilation was used in one structure, whereas, the other was attached to a blower to circulate the air.
The first structure (natural ventilation type) was placed outside, while the second one (forced air circulation type) was kept inside a shed.
Onions were stored in both structures over the same period for 3 months.
Onion storage performance of both structures was studied.
Both structures were found suitable for adoption at the farm level.
