FIELD PERFORMANCE OF MERISTEM-TIP-CULTURE DERIVED SEED GARLIC

Authors:   D.G. Oh, H.D. Suh, K.T. Kim, J.W. Lee
Abstract:
Yield performances of garlic derived from meristem-tip culture and seed garlic multiplied from the meristem-tip derived clone in the open field were compared with that of farmers' seed garlic. The yielding ability of the multiplied seed was better than the farmers' seed until the fourth year multiplication of stock in the open field.

To increase the multiplication rate of the stocks, the use of aerial bulbils as the seeding material was studied. By using bulbils together with cloves as the seed, the multiplication rate could be improved by 50% than by using cloves alone. The cloves or single-cloved bulbs from aerial bulbil showed better growth and yielding ability than the normal seed cloves.
